So which is the least healthy?

All figures are per bar (as sold). The headline number on the wrapper is protein — but flip it over and the sugar tells the real story. A few of these are genuinely high-protein, low-sugar; others deliver more sugar than protein and are closer to candy with a workout aesthetic.

Highest calories: Clif Bar at 250 kcal per bar (68g) — it's an endurance-fuel bar, not a low-calorie snack. Most saturated fat: Grenade Carb Killa and Pure Protein tie at ~3.5g per bar; KIND, Quest and Barebells sit around 3g. Built and Clif are lowest at ~2g.Protein-to-sugar ratio: Quest (~21:1) and Barebells/Grenade (~10-20:1) crush it; Clif and Nature Valley flip it, serving more sugar than protein.

The most candy-like is the Clif Bar — 17g sugar, 250 kcal and only 10g protein make it an energy bar, not a protein bar. Nature Valley (4g protein, 11g sugar) and RXBAR (14g sugar from dates) are also closer to a sweet snack than a protein hit. For genuinely high-protein, low-sugar: Quest, Barebells and Grenade Carb Killa deliver ~20-22g protein with 1-2g sugar — though they lean heavily on sugar alcohols and sweeteners to get there.

Nature Valley is sold as a 2-bar pouch; its figures are per pouch (42g, the standard serving), which is how it's eaten.

Low-sugar bars (Quest, Barebells, Grenade, Built, Pure Protein) achieve sweetness with sugar alcohols and sucralose/stevia, not sugar — large servings can cause digestive upset in some people.

Grenade and Barebells values are UK/EU formulations; US versions and other flavours can differ slightly.
